For Piano Day 2016 (a recent, but rather wonderful, celebration of playing and listening to all expressions of the instrument) I wanted to make a new piece that expanded the sound world of the piano, and placed it in an acoustic and evolving environment.

Having played a moving concert at the Union Chapel in Islington, as part of the Daylight Music series, it felt right to incorporate the sound of the audience, in that rich reverberant acoustic, and have the piano emerge from that.

The other extended sounds come from modular synth and tape effects created from the piano sounds themselves, and slowing down/speeding up recordings made in the studio.

(It’s free to listen or download).
